COSEYL, the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, has denounced the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, which killed over 40 people and injured many more.
Recall that gunmen thought to be herders assaulted the church on Sunday, killing many worshipers and injuring dozens more.
In a statement, the coalition’s President-General, Goodluck Ibem, said that the attack’s perpetrators, suspected Fulani herdsmen, had declared war on the South.
“The attack by these Fulani terrorists is not just an attack against Ondo State, but a direct strike against Christians and the entire Southern area,” the statement adds.
“We are well aware that the bloodthirsty Fulani terrorists chose Ondo State to carry out such heinous and barbaric attacks because of the governor’s anti-injustice stance, strict adherence to the rule of law, and execution of the anti-open grazing law.”
“This attack reveals to all that there is a plot to fulanize and Islamize the country, and those behind it are hell-bent on carrying out their diabolical plan to murder all Southerners in order to take over their ancestral territories by force.”
“We demand that those offenders be pursued immediately and that no stone be left unturned until they are apprehended and brought to justice.”
“We need an emergency conference of the Southern governors immediately to establish measures for protecting the Southern region.”
