Pep Guardiola praised Jack Grealish for keeping the game under control during Manchester City’s Champions League semi-final second-leg meeting against Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Real Madrid defeated Guardiola’s team 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu to qualify for the Champions League final.
With less than 20 minutes remaining, Riyad Mahrez put Guardiola’s side ahead on the night and 5-3 on aggregate.
Real Madrid upset the Premier League winners thanks to late goals from Rodrygo and Karim Benzema.
Real Madrid will now compete in the Champions League final against Liverpool later this month.
Guardiola told Man City’s website after the game, “After the goal, we controlled it.” We located the game and made our way to the byline.
“Jack (Grealish) assisted us in maintaining control of the game, but he was unable to finish when we were near.”
With their Premier League title ambitions still hanging in the balance, Manchester City will have to pick themselves up.
On Sunday, the Citizens will host Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium.
