All presidential hopefuls from the South-East have been advised by Ohanaeze Ndigbo not to settle for the role of running mate in the 2023 race.

The warning came amid reports that Mr. Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, was considering running as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate.

Obi was the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Vice Presidential Candidate in the 2019 general election. It is currently being speculated that he would once again deputize Atiku in the upcoming election.

In a press statement released to journalists in Enugu on Wednesday, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, warned that Obi or any other presidential aspirant from the region who accepts to play second fiddle will not be taken lightly by Igbo youths.

“WE CANNOT IGNORE THE FACT THAT MR. PETER OBI, OKWUTE NDIGBO, HAS ACCEPTED TO BE ATIKU’S RUNNING MATE.”

“THAT IS WHY WE ARE ISSUING A WARNING THAT NEITHER OBI NOR ANY OTHER IGBO MAN OR WOMAN SHOULD STOP WORKING ON THIS PROJECT.” THEY SHOULD NO LONGER ACCEPT BEING A SPARE TIRE.

“NO IGBO MAN SHOULD BE CAUGHT OUT OF THIS RACE BECAUSE WE ARE BOTH PART AND PARCEL OF THIS COUNTRY.” IF IT IS OTHERWISE, NOW IS THE TIME TO INFORM US, AND WE WILL TAKE CHARGE OF OUR OWN FUTURE.

“FOR THE UMPTEENT TIME, WE ARE SAYING THAT BOTH THE APC AND THE PDP SHOULD MICRO-ZONE THEIR PRESIDENTIAL TICKETS TO THE SOUTH-EAST.” ANYTHING LESS THAN THAT IS INAPPROPRIATE,” OKWU stated.
