The Lagos State branch of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural group has denied accusations that it ditched Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate Peter Obi in favor of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2023 elections.
Sunday Ossai, president of the chapter, claimed the deceptive idea that Ohanaeze in Lagos dumped Obi for Tinubu came from hell.
Solomon Aguene, Ossai’s predecessor, was criticized for making such statements.
He emphasized that no one else was authorized to speak on behalf of the group.
In a statement, Ossai stated that the claim was intended to promote private interests rather than that of Ohanaeze in Lagos State.
“The attention of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has been brought to the news making the rounds with the title ‘Ohanaeze Ndigbo rejects Peter Obi, declares support for Tinubu,'” the statement said in part.
“The aforesaid statements were delivered by Chief Solomon Aguene, the immediate past president of Ohanaeze, Lagos State Chapter.”
“Ohanaeze, therefore, informs the general public that Chief Sunday Ossai is the current president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State Chapter and that only the Chapter President or an authorized officer of the current Lagos state executive has the right to speak on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Lagos State Chapter.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, the false idea that ‘Ohanaeze dumps Obi’ is from hell and intended to promote commercial interests.” This statement is categorically refuted.”
Tinubu, Obi, and Atiku Abubakar were announced as the presidential candidates of their respective parties a few days ago.
