Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the Alaafin of Oyo, has died. He was 83 years old when he died.
On Friday night, April 22nd, the king died at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital in Ado Ekiti. His body was transported to Oyo state, where burial ceremonies have already commenced.
With 52 years in power, he was the longest-reigning Alaafin in history.
The monarch had been ill, and a plan had been put in place to fly him out of the country before he died late Friday night. His tickets, as well as those of a number of his wives, were purchased prior to his untimely death.
On October 15, 1938, Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi gave birth to Alaafin Adeyemi in the Alowolodu Royal House in the famous Oyo town. On November 18, 1970, he was crowned, succeeding Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu I. Iku Baba Yeye was his popular name.
Many spouses and children survive him.
Amen. May his soul rest in peace.
