Fernandinho, a Manchester City midfielder, equaled Chelsea star Didier Drogba’s Champions League appearance record on Wednesday.
With his appearance for Manchester City against Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final, Fernandinho has now matched Drogba’s seven-year record.
Feranandinho, who turned 37 on Wednesday, became the first player since Didier Drogba to play in the Champions League on his birthday after replacing Riyad Mahrez with five minutes remaining (in 2015).
Drogba, who retired from Chelsea after a trophy-laden career, accomplished the milestone on March 11, 2015, when Chelsea faced Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge.
Fortunately, the former captain of the Ivory Coast was among the goal scorers, as the game finished in a 2-2 draw.
In the meantime, Pep Guardiola’s side was defeated 3-1 by Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final second leg tie at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
