Sierra Leone defender Osman Kakay claims his team is adequately prepared for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Nigeria on Thursday.
The Leone Stars performed admirably at the AFCON finals in Cameroon in 2021, their first appearance since the 1996 tournament in South Africa.
Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau, and Sao Tome & Principe are in Group A of the qualifications, and John Keister’s players are eager to return to the biannual championship.
The West Africans will kick off their campaign for a spot in Cote d’Ivoire 2023 with an away match against the Super Eagles at Abuja’s Moshood Abiola Stadium.
The Sierra Leone Stars landed in Abuja on Sunday and have been working on game plans.
The players are in excellent spirits, according to Kakay, and are looking forward to meeting the Super Eagles.
“The lads are in excellent spirits, and we’re getting ready for our games against Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau.” There have been rumors that misinterpret what I’ve said, but as a professional footballer, I respect every opponent I face,” the Queen’s Park Rangers defender remarked in a short video uploaded on the Sierra Leone Football Association’s Twitter account.
“Hopefully, I and the team can go out there and put our hearts on the line for Sierra Leone and give the supporters what they want back home.”
