Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk (born October 31, 1986) is a Nigerian musician and singer who performs under the stage name Iyanya.
He rose to notoriety after winning the first season of Project Fame West Africa, and his chart-topping single “Kukere” helped him become a household name.
He and Ubi Franklin co-founded the record label Made Men Music Group in 2011. My Story, his first studio album, was released in 2011. The songs “No Time” and “Love Truly” aided in its promotion.
Desire, his second studio album, featured singles such as “Kukere,” “Ur Waist,” “Flavor,” “Sexy Mama,” and “Jombolo.” He was named Artist of the Year at The Headies in 2013.
In October 2016, Iyanya posted on Instagram that he had signed a record deal with Mavin Records, months after signing a management deal with Temple Management Company.
He announced his intention to leave Made Man Music Group in July 2016.
Iyanya was born on Palm Street in Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria. His father worked as a forester, while his mother was a governess.
According to Iyanya, his mother was the household disciplinarian, while his father was the gentler of the two.
His parents, his mother, who was 42 at the time, and his father, who was 50, both died in 2008. Iyanya’s older sibling died shortly after his parents.
Iyanya’s grandfather was a pastor.
Iyanya was the choir master for his church’s children’s choir when he was five years old. Iyanya received his primary, secondary, and university education in Calabar.
He graduated from the University of Calabar with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
