Temilade Openiyi, a Nigerian artist better known by her stage name Tems, has commented on her Grammy Award victory.
Tems, clearly ecstatic, expressed her satisfaction at the success and said she thought it was just the beginning.
‘Wait for U,’ a hit song by Future featuring Drake, earned the singer the title of ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ on Sunday night, according to WITHIN NIGERIA.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Tems recounted how she used to regularly listen to a number of well-known musicians with whom she currently works.
The singer said, in relation to her Grammy victory specifically:
It is incredible, I get to work with people that five years ago were on my playlist. I was jamming to them and now I am working with them, it is such a pleasure and I feel like this is just the beginning.
The song, with U was taken from my record, Higher, they reached out to me and they told me they would use it as a sample and I felt it was amazing. I thought the song was interesting and amazing the way it got together.
