The former Chelsea man is reported missing after being caught up in the 7.7 magnitude earthquake, and search and rescue operations are currently underway. On Sunday, Atsu, a player for Turkish Süper Lig club Hatayspor, scored a goal late to secure a 1-0 victory over Kasimpasa. Atsu left Saudi Arabian team Al Raed FC last summer and joined Hatayspor on a free transfer.
After the earthquake, Atsu’s family had to be saved, and when the search and rescue effort gets underway, he is now said to be one of the people still missing. The club’s director of athletics, Taner Savut, is also imprisoned.
