Despite the uncertainties surrounding Romelu Lukaku’s future, Belgium coach Roberto Martinez has stated that the player wants to be crucial for his team.
Following a disappointing first season back at Stamford Bridge, Lukaku has been linked with a move away from Chelsea.
The most likely destination for Lukaku is a return to Inter Milan, with his lawyer researching the possibilities of a deal with the Serie A club.
Martinez is confident in Lukaku’s decision, telling reporters, “He wants to be important and enjoy his football.” I’m confident that the decision made in the summer will be correct.
“With Romelu’s condition, we are fairly relaxed in Belgium.” I know it’s a big topic, but he’s trying to recuperate from his injuries right now, and that’s all he can think about.
“It will be for the right reasons if he stays at Chelsea.” If he does move away, it will be because everyone is in agreement.
“Romelu is a player I’m very familiar with. At an early age, I managed him at the club level (at Everton).
“When he was 19, he was in a far different situation than he is now. He’s now a seasoned player who knows exactly what he wants.”
