Naomi Danlami, a Nigerian policewoman, was reportedly captured by Abuja police for allegedly fabricating her own kidnapping in order to raise finances for her wedding through the ransom she demanded.
Naomi’s kidnapping was first reported on Facebook on April 19th, only one day after she announced her planned engagement.
According to FIJ, Naomi’s relatives called her phone, but her alleged abductors replied, stating they didn’t need money and only wanted to get rid of her.
Her online pals are believed to have started a social media fundraising campaign to raise the money for her kidnappers.
During the fundraising, several of her coworkers expressed concern, claiming that the subject had a criminal background and could not be trusted and that the report of her kidnapping could be fraudulent.
Usman Baba-Alkali, the Inspector-General of Police, knew of the scenario, according to a source close to the FIJ, and authorized the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) to track down Danlami’s kidnappers.
When the IRT got to work, they learned she had been spotted the last time in Nasarawa State.
On Saturday, Danlami appeared out of nowhere, claiming to have escaped the kidnapper’s lair after being assaulted.
She then insisted on returning to work right away, as if nothing had happened. This allegedly sparked concern among her coworkers and fundraisers.
“We all thought that if she was kidnapped and [email protected] on top of that, the first thing she should do was go to the hospital for an evaluation and potential treatment,” the insider stated.
When Naomi went to work, IRT detained her, and further investigations are proceeding.
