Attempts by the All Progressives Congress, APC; Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; and other political parties to zone presidential tickets to other regions would result in the declaration of Biafra, according to the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, the apex socio-political youth group in the South-East geopolitical zone.

According to a statement released on Thursday by COSEYL President General Goodluck Ibem, the two major political parties have agreed to zone tickets to the north.

According to the coalition, regions in the south have equal rights to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

“It is unconstitutional, seditious, and a defiant suspension of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for anyone to throw away the rotation of the office of President between the North and South as summed up in the federal character principle in the Nigerian constitution,” according to the coalition.

“When a sector of a country is barred from administration and other political roles, it implies they have been told in clear language that they are no longer a part of the country, which is generally a proclamation of another country within a country.”

“We want our northern brothers to understand that the South is not asking for the presidency of Nigeria; rather, it is our constitutional right to produce the president of Nigeria in 2023.”

“Just as the Nigerian government explores oil deposits in the south as a federal government property, Nigerians from the south have the right to produce the president of Nigeria in 2023.”
